The Ohio Public Library Information Network (OPLIN) – an agency dedicated to the betterment of all Ohio Public Libraries – wanted to increase the ability of the state’s libraries to communicate meaningfully with patrons.
By leveraging email-to-text technology and SMS automation, Ohio Public Libraries could more conveniently reach library-goers via text alerts when borrowed books became overdue.
OPLIN converted existing email alerts into text message alerts without overhauling its existing messaging infrastructure. Distribution lists and dynamic targeting allowed text alerts to be sent to either the entire network or only delinquent accounts.
Augmenting the library system’s existing alert structure with SMS capabilities allowed Ohio Public Libraries to communicate with patrons without any added cost or training.
Today, nearly 11,000 text messages are sent through the system per week.
