Case Study: A Dose of Healthy Living Advice Delivered Daily

Vision

YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids initiated a program to educate parents about the importance of a healthy diet and exercise. However, it struggled to find an effective way to contact parents. In particular, the organization wanted to boost attendance at its free exercise classes.

Strategy

The YMCA chose to use short codes to connect with its community's parents via text messaging.

Action

Using a customized campaign, the YMCA began text messaging recipe suggestions, physical activity reminders and encouragement to eat more fruits and vegetables to parents who opted in to receiving text messages.

The program was soon expanded to send reminders, suggestions and cancellation notices to class participants.

Results

The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids has significantly increased communication, text messaging with more than 400 parents and participants weekly. Read the more in-depth case study here.
